U.S. — The American Society of Plastic Surgeons has officially recommended that surgeons stop doing those gender surgeries on minors that absolutely no one was doing.
The organization issued its official guidance today, stating that the evidence is now stacked against performing the surgeries that no surgeons ever performed.
"We recommend all plastic surgeons immediately stop doing what they never do," said Dr. Mark Fairbanks, President of the ASPS. "After collecting outcome data from gender surgeries on minors, which does not happen, we have determined that no physician should engage in this practice. This update makes our stance clear on this critical issue that doesn't actually exist."
Democrats have decried the statement as a blatant attack on trans youth which could lead to their being denied made-up surgeries. "This is nothing but political posturing," declared Senator Elizabeth Warren. "These so-called doctors are trying to limit access to suicide-preventing surgeries for trans youth - surgeries which do not, and have not, ever happened. Physicians simply do not perform gender surgeries on minors, which is what makes this guidance against these vitally needed surgeries so appalling."
At publishing time, a judge had awarded $2 million in damages to a defendant who underwent gender surgery as a minor, despite that sort of surgery never occurring.
