U.S. — The ghost of Jim Crow has expressed bewilderment and fury that his name is being used to describe black Americans voting with an ID.
After spending decades viciously denying voting and civic rights to black Americans, Jim Crow could not believe his reputation had fallen so far as to be associated with black Americans being issued government IDs and freely voting.
"What in the world," sighed the ghost. "My second coming is black people voting with a picture ID? How could they do this to me? And after all my work fighting against black Americans being able to vote at all. You'd think people would have a little more respect for my name. It's offensive."
Several Democrats reportedly offered an apology to Mr. Crow's ghost. "We're really sorry, Jim," said Senator Chuck Schumer. "It isn't fair after all your valiant efforts to stop black people from voting. We promise to do better."
At publishing time, the ghost had once again become distraught after learning his name was being invoked to describe laws that don't allow giving water bottles to people in voting lines.
