U.S. — Travis Kelce, long-time tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, has finally acquired an expensive ring without the help of NFL referees.
Kelce, who announced his engagement to American pop star Taylor Swift this week, reportedly spent his own money to buy a ring for his bride-to-be instead of relying on refs to earn the ring.
"I thought about proposing with one of my Super Bowl rings, but Taylor deserves something I earned on my own, not something a ref got for me," Kelce said. "This ring cost me $1,000 of my own money, which is three whole months of my $34 million salary. I added it all up myself."
According to friends and family, Kelce has long harbored disappointment over never having earned a ring without a referee doing all the work for him. "It doesn't feel... um, what is the word? Good. Yeah, it doesn't feel good," said Kelce. "I am so happy to have finally got this ring from Zales without any help whatsoever. And then, it was so cool, everyone said, 'Wow, Travis. No one else on earth would ever have picked out that hideous ring'. And it made me feel good because that means I really did it myself."
At publishing time, Kelce had admitted he relied on NFL referees to plan the proposal because he's really not much for romance.
