WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Thursday morning, President Donald Trump announced retaliatory tariffs on the United States after his political party suffered massive losses in the midterm elections.

In response to the devastating defeats Republicans suffered at the hands of Democrats across the country on Tuesday, Trump vowed to hit the United States with stiff economic penalties.

"These people, they're not good people," Trump said. "Starting today, I'm going to impose a 10% tariff on all goods in the United States. They can't treat us like this. The people who did this are going to pay, believe me."

The White House clarified that the tariffs were Trump's revenge on the country turning against him in the midterm elections. "President Trump does not like to lose," an aide close to Trump told the Press. "If the voters elected Democrats, there is a price to pay for that choice."

Trump warned that the tariffs could increase if the United States didn't get back on board with his agenda. "These tariffs will go into effect immediately and will stand until the American people like me again," Trump said. "What's not to like? The people who voted for Democrats should see the progress on the new White House Ballroom. It's really something."

Economists predicted that the new tariffs would have a crippling effect on the economy, a consequence Trump said he's fine with if it means sticking it to the Democrats.

At publishing time, Trump was upset to learn the new tariffs would affect Republicans too.
