U.S. — In yet another potentially ominous sign that President Donald Trump was dead-set on the United States acquiring the territory for strategic and national security purposes, new U.S. Army recruitment ads offered prospective enlistees the opportunity to "Visit Lovely Greenland."

Trump's rhetoric toward the Danish territory has steadily increased in recent weeks, with the president making it clear that he intends for the U.S. to take control of Greenland by any means necessary, leading military marketing efforts to use visiting the country to entice recruits.

"It seems like it's foreshadowing something," said one young man who saw the ad on social media. "I can't quite put my finger on the message it's conveying, but telling people enlisting in the army that they'll have the chance to visit Greenland can't be all that positive. I mean, I've heard people say that Greenland can be beautiful to visit, but I'm not sure ‘visiting' is all this recruitment ad is referring to, if you get what I mean. It's the military, after all, not a travel agency."

Despite the seemingly implied message of the marketing, U.S. Army officials remained coy. "It's nothing that serious," said marketing spokesperson Major Arnold Rembrandt. "We're just letting potential recruits know that, as a member of the U.S. Army, they could visit a wide variety of exotic locations around the world. Like Greenland. Sometime soon. Aggressively. That's all."

At publishing time, the U.S. Army refused to confirm or deny reports that they had simultaneously been airdropping leaflets to Greenland residents asking, "Have you ever wanted to see American soldiers up close?"
