MIDLOTHIAN, TX — Dallas Jenkins announced the next season of his popular faith-based show about the ministry of Jesus would be called The Chosen: Fire and Ash.
The crew at 5&2 Studios had reportedly worked tirelessly updating the arrest of Jesus for modern audiences, incorporating elements of angelic battle against demons and Roman Centurions who work for a mechanized android named Pilate.
"It's just like the Bible, but with angels portrayed as strange blue aliens that make love with their hair," he said. "It's very uplifting."
The Chosen: Fire and Ash takes a bold new look at the last day of Jesus' life through the eyes of an angel named Squanto. Can Squanto rescue Jesus from the grip of death? No, but it'll be fun watching him try.
"Squanto is also deeply conflicted about his feelings for Mary Magdalene," Jenkins said. "There's definitely some hair action going on, let me tell you."
Squanto also has a dark past. Once an angel, then a demon, now an angel again. Can he find redemption in his own works? The answer is no. But, again, Jenkins promises it'll be fun to watch him try.
According to Jenkins, everyone already knows how the Jesus story ends, so it was important to add some twists outside the established narrative for audiences to root for. "Watching Jesus die is kind of a bummer, but watching blue angel Squanto survive against a crew of Pharisees trying to mine a special mineral from his angel planet is a cool subplot."
At publishing time, Dallas Jenkins had been surprised to learn people didn't want to witnesses the Jesus story through the eyes of an acrobatic angel with a dark past.
