LEHI, UT — Content-filtering streaming service VidAngel announced a new, cleaner edit of The Godfather called The Goshfather.
The Goshfather is an improved edit of The Godfather that utilizes AI technology to replace guns with cannoli and replace all the bad language with pleasant terms of endearment. In addition, Marlon Brando's character will only be referred to as a "Gosh"father to avoid the appearance of taking the Lord's name in vain.
"We've had an edit of The Godfather on our service for years, but it was very hard to follow because whole scenes were cut just to make it appropriate for our clientele," explained VidAngel CEO Bill Aho. "This new edit keeps everything in, but sanitizes it completely."
For example, in one particularly graphic scene from the original movie, Sonny Corleone is ambushed at a tollbooth and shot dozens of times with machine guns. In The Goshfather, he is ambushed by Mormons who convert him to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He immediately leave this criminal life behind and viewers never see his character again.
Director Francis Ford Coppola, who directed the original film, has reportedly given the new project his blessing. "Seeing the famous horse head scene replaced by the character finding a Chicago deep-dish pizza in his bed really makes the scene work," he said. "The pizza is from Chicago, you see, where there's a big mob history. Get it?"
At publishing time, if the elaborate edit proves successful, VidAngel intends to make several new versions of popular movies such as Goof-fellas, Texas Chainsaw Casserole, and Supergirl (but Christian).
