BOSTON, MA — The President of the Unitarian Universalist Association has come out strongly to reaffirm the denomination's commitment to the belief that a man should not speak in church.

The Unitarian Universalist Association is the nation's largest group of Unitarian congregations, numbering over 150,000 members, with exactly 0 men acting as pastors. That ratio doesn't look like it will change any time soon now that UUA President, Reverend Doctor Sofia Betancourt, reaffirmed her belief that men have no business speaking in church.

"This has always been the rule in all Unitarian churches since the founding," said Rev. Betancourt to the UUA General Assembly. "We are very tolerant in the UUA, but we have a few non-negotiables, like we all agree to deny the full divinity of Jesus, the Bible being inerrant, and men exercising patriarchy or even speaking in the church."

"'Men should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own wives at home; for it is disgraceful for a man to speak in the church.' This is straight from our own translation of the Scriptures, my brothers and sisters."

At the end of her address, the UUA General Assembly did end up voting to make an exception for trans women and very, very liberal men who are basically women anyway.

At publishing time, the UUA General Assembly was preparing for next year's conference, focusing on following the example of Jesus, who picked only women to be his apostles.
