LOS ANGELES, CA — A groundbreaking scientific study discovered that women first invented rompers to make other women look stupid.
According to austere fashion historian Jillian LeFrast, rompers were invented around 1993 by several women who were trying to make other women look like complete fools.
"By all accounts, it worked like a charm," LeFrast said. "It's actually quite brilliant what these women were able to accomplish in terms of convincing their fellow ladies to wear idiotic-looking clothing by acting like rompers are stylish. There had been a number of similar attempts over the years leading up to the invention of rompers — overalls and belly shirts come to mind — but no article of clothing has ever surpassed rompers' ability to look really, really dumb while still pretending to be fashionable."
According to several women, there's nothing quite like the high of seeing another woman fall for the old rompers trick.
"Hahaha, I can't believe it still works," laughed Rebecca Maines, who is a woman and who owns three pairs of rompers. "Look at how stupid those romper-wearing women are. Look at that one. She doesn't even know. What a hilarious joke."
At publishing time, further research had revealed that women had also invented the pantsuit so other people could laugh at them behind their backs.
