CHARLOTTE, NC — During a lesson on trial and tribulation, the senior pastor of a popular megachurch said he understood perfectly what Syrian Christians were going through because his Mercedes AMG GT 63 Coupe was in the shop.
"James tells us to consider it all joy when we encounter various trials. But I'll be honest, it's hard to be joyful when my Mercedes AMG GT 63 Coupe needs a new transmission," Pastor Steven Furtick said. "Now I know exactly how Christians in Syria are feeling today."
Syrian Christians, who have been the target of persecution in the form of violence, extortion, displacement, kidnapping, and execution, have reportedly been on Furtick's mind ever since he took his sportscar in for an oil change and discovered he needed a new transmission.
"It was devastating," Furtick said as the lights went out and a dramatic spotlight came on to indicate a somber moment in the service. "Just like it must have been devastating to Syrian Christians when they were abducted by radical Islamists."
The Mercedes AMG GT 63 Coupe is a high-performance vehicle with a 4.0L V8 Biturbo engine that can be subject to significant problems, much like Syrian Christians being murdered by Muslims.
"It's been hard," Furtick explained. "I have been brought low and now understand what persecuted believers in Syria are going through."
"But I know that God has a plan for me," he added, in tears.
At publishing time, Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham forces in Syria had reportedly murdered several hundred more Christians, which reminded Pastor Furtick of the tragically high cost of repairs for his Mercedes AMG GT 63 Coup.
