MACON, GA — Local man John Gardener expressed longing this week for a simpler, better time before his grandmother learned how to use emojis in texts and social media posts.

Though he clarified that he loved his grandmother, Dorothy, dearly, his life had become far more stressful since her discovery of emojis.

"It's gotten out of hand," Gardener commented. "At first, it was just a few here and there, but now she's trying to compose entire sentences, entire paragraphs, with emojis."

Gardener told his friends that his life has become a lot more complicated since his aged grandma started using multiple emojis to convey information and respond to every text and social media interaction.

"She sent me a smiley face, a ghost, a rainbow, and a target a few days ago," he continued. "I sat staring at that text for four hours trying to make sense of it before I just responded with a thumbs up. She sent back a smiley face plus heart, so I guess I got it right…?"

Gardener's family also expressed confusion and mounting frustration regarding the sudden emergence of Grandma's emoji usage. "I can't make heads or tails of these things," Cousin Grant Michaels said. "I'm worried that she's going to get hurt and none of us will know because her message for help will just be a string of indecipherable emojis."

At publishing time, the family started to panic after Grandma announced that she was joining TikTok.
