SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has officially launched the first annual BMX Missionary Games, where young missionaries will compete in the arena of BMX sports.
"They're naturals, those Elders," said Prophet, Seer, and Revelator Russel M. Nelson. "They're out there riding bikes all day anyway, but now they can do it for a chance at a sweet Latter-Day-Saint BMX trophy. If I weren't almost 101 years old, I'd jump on one of those 20-inch bikes of glory and head out myself!"
Young elders will compete from all over the world for a chance at BMX and Celestial glory in a competition to be held in the mountains above Salt Lake City. Missionaries have been vigorously training around the world by pedaling between teaching appointments in search of the best stair drops possible.
Elder Dan Smith from Salt Lake City told reporters he's excited to show off the skills he's been developing on his mission in Paris, France. "I ride all day, and sometimes for fun we jump stairs and ride rails. The bikes they give us aren't BMX regulation size, but we make things work.
Another missionary, Elder Dan Smith from Salt Lake City serving in the Philadelphia mission, said he can't wait to try out some of the sick moves he's been working on while preaching. "My mom is worried, but I told her I've got the Lord on my side and I'm ready to ride!"
At publishing time, millions had come out to watch the LDS BMX games, or about 30 Mormon families.
