LOS ANGELES, CA - Patton Oswalt has issued an apology for appearing in a photograph with noted transphobe Dave Chappelle. Dave Chappelle has also responded to fierce backlash from his own fanbase and issued an apology for appearing in a photograph with his very unfunny friend Patton Oswalt.
"I apologize to the many people I hurt," said Chappelle. "It was insensitive for a comedian of my caliber to appear in a picture with someone as gravely unfunny as Patton Oswalt. I was not aware of the deep pain I was causing. I'm always learning, and I will strive to do better in the future."
"We are glad Chappelle has expressed his commitment to do better, but this isn't enough," said Candy Cruggstein, an activist for protecting funny comedy. "We need to know that Chappelle is committed to being funny, and will not allow his comedic genius to be further tainted by mediocre joke tellers like Patton Oswalt."
Chappelle has checked himself into comedy therapy for comedy counseling and has donated 2 million to The Comedy Store in penance.
