SEATTLE, WA — In a cruel twist of fate, local boy Steven Brent actually has an uncle who works at Nintendo, but no one will believe him because of the popular meme.
"No, really! I'm not joking! My uncle works at Nintendo. He showed me the canceled Project H.A.M.M.E.R. for the Wii," Brent, 10, reportedly told fellow students at school. "Why won't anyone believe me?"
Having an uncle who works at Nintendo and shares secret information no one else is privy to has been an ongoing meme rooted in a tangled web of lies that began in the 1980s. Before the Internet was in wide use, kids would source a fictional uncle at Nintendo to perpetuate such myths as Luigi being a playable character in Super Mario 64, finding the Triforce in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and unlocking "blood mode" in Super Smash Bros. However, sources confirmed that Brent actually does have an uncle who works at Nintendo. But no one will believe him.
"My uncle is real! His name is Gary!" Brent pleaded with other kids his age. "Guys, be my friends, please!"
According to witnesses, Brent was given detention for telling blatant lies and making his fourth-grade teacher believe she would be able to play an unreleased copy of Earthbound 64.
At publishing time, Steven Brent's VIP tour of Nintendo of America headquarters felt empty without any friends to join him.
