SPRINGFIELD, IL — Local parents Mark and Jenna Wilkins spent the day eagerly waiting to find out what grade they received on their daughter Addison's third-grade science project.
The couple had carefully designed a detailed model of the solar system, and felt confident about both the hands-on and written components of the project they turned in.
"I can't wait to see how we did," said Mark, anxiously waiting in the school pick-up line. "We really put in the hours on this one. I spent days airbrushing those planets to make them look perfect. I dare someone to show me a kid with a better science project than the one we made."
According to sources, the Wilkinses were forced to put on a movie for Addison to keep her from interfering with the project. "She kept getting in the way," explained Jenna. "She wanted to help, but she just doesn't write neatly enough for the tri-fold, and she's liable to mess up some of the placement of the dowel rods. In the end, it really worked better for her to watch Zootopia 2 while we got down to business."
At publishing time, the Wilkinses had scheduled a parent-teacher conference to demand an explanation for how their project had only received a 96%.
