NEW YORK, NY — The fashion world was in turmoil this morning after it was revealed that a hobo with a garbage can stuck on his head who wandered onto the red carpet was mistaken for a Met Gala attendee.
Hollywood A-listers and industry experts alike were horrified that a transient had been inadvertently granted admission to the most exclusive art and clothing event of the year.
Attendees gasped as the man made his way up the long red-carpeted staircase leading into the museum. "I can't get over how bold and brave he is!" one woman told her friend. "He nailed the theme. That outfit must have cost him thousands!"
The theme for this year's Met Gala was "Fashion Is Art," with many who attended the event pushing the boundaries of what could be considered fashion and apparel. Witnesses reported loud cheers when the bum with a trash can on his head staggered along the red carpet, assuming he was a famous actor making a bold statement.
"Look at that!" Met Gala host Anna Wintour gasped. "He's brilliant! That man is the very embodiment of fashion. He's the reason I spend millions holding these events… look at the lines on that can… pure art!"
The man, later identified as 47-year-old Rufus Crump, spent the better part of the evening bumping into people and objects, and was later seen attempting to shove shrimp in his pockets while yelling at a nearby waiter about alien brain waves.
At publishing time, Lena Dunham had announced that she was now dating the hobo, and the evening was considered a massive success by critics.
