TUPELO, MS — A local Christian man was forced to retreat to his home and cower in shame after he realized he failed to actually pray for his friend who asked him to pray for him and then later thanked him for praying for him.
Jerry Leonard had completely forgotten that his friend, Chris Brandt, had asked him several weeks before to pray for him during a difficult situation he was going through in his personal life. It was only after Brandt saw him again and thanked him for his prayers that Leonard remembered agreeing to pray for him in the first place.
"Oh… oh geez. Well… yeah, you're welcome," Leonard was heard saying to Brandt after being thanked for the prayers. "Yep, I totally prayed for you. Just like I said I would. I did some serious praying for you regarding that situation. That thing you had to do at that place with that one guy… I totally remember. And I prayed. Man, did I pray. I'm not just saying that."
By all accounts, Brandt remained oblivious to the fact that the Christian brother he had trusted to pray for him — and thanked for doing so — had done nothing of the sort. "I'm so blessed to have a friend like Jerry," he said. "I knew I could count on him to pray for me. Everything ended up working out, the Lord showed Himself faithful yet again, and I made sure to thank Jerry for remembering me in his prayers. It really meant a lot to me. I know he's not the type of guy to forget."
At publishing time, Leonard had reportedly packed up all of his belongings and moved to a different state to avoid the shame of ever having to see Brandt again.
