EDEN — Asked by God whether she had consumed fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, Eve replied, "Not to my knowledge."

Holding a chewed apple core alongside her husband Adam, Eve held her composure as she told the omniscient Creator that she could not say for sure whether she had eaten the forbidden fruit.

"Gosh, I really just don't know," said Eve, chucking the apple core into the bushes. "Let me think here, forbidden fruit... nope, not ringing any bells. No eating that or being naked or bringing sin into the world or any of that stuff that I can recall."

God then asked how Eve knew she was naked, prompting her to insist she had always been a big modesty person and that the hastily assembled fig-leaf outfit was just a coincidence.

"Yeah, super weird, just felt like throwing on some leaves. Totally random," explained Eve. "I've got to plead ignorance on the whole thing. Right, Adam? Help me out here."

Adam nodded vigorously but was unable to comment, as his mouth was still full.

At publishing time, Eve's son Cain had denied any knowledge about what might have happened to his brother Abel.
