U.S. — Democratic leaders expressed deep concern about the growing scourge of gun violence against active shooters.
In yet another episode in Idaho, gun violence reared its ugly head as an armed citizen chased an active shooter away from the defenseless and wounded.
"We are appalled by the rising threat of gun violence against mass shooters," said House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. "These young murderers deserve to be able to go to their targets without wondering if someone there could be carrying a gun. Thoughts and prayers are simply not enough. We must take action to take the guns out of the hands of these citizens. Enough is enough."
In the wake of the shooting, Democrats in Congress introduced legislation to tighten restrictions on citizens obtaining guns and bar carrying weapons anywhere that a mass shooter might target. "We must secure these places as gun-free zones," said Democratic Senator Mazie Hirono. "The firearms citizens have today are simply not what the Founding Fathers had in mind when they wrote the Second Amendment. There is no legitimate need for a citizen to be carrying a weapon like this in public where they might see an active shooter. If we had passed these laws sooner, many young active shooters might still be alive today."
At publishing time, Democrats had named the new bill the "Keep Our Shooters Safe Act."
