U.S. — According to reports, a small town girl living in a lonely world was forced to cancel her travel plans after being politely informed by an Amtrak employee that there isn't actually a "midnight train going anywhere."
"I'm sorry, miss, but that is not a thing. You need to choose a valid destination and time," explained James Weller, who has worked as a customer service representative for Amtrak for the past five years. "And please use the kiosk."
The young woman, later identified as Kelly Young, admitted to feeling lost and hopeless. "Can't they recognize a cry for help when they see one?" she said. "But I'll show them with a one-star review on Yelp."
In an official statement following the incident, the company noted that this was not the first time a young woman specifically requested a midnight train going anywhere. "We kindly ask that all customers please stick to the current posted train schedule. And please use the ticket kiosks conveniently available at every Amtrak station."
Weller confirmed that this has been an ongoing problem for decades. "We see it all the time," he said. "It goes on and on and on and on."
At publishing time, a city boy born and raised in South Detroit was similarly put off by Amtrak's customer service.
