POOLER, GA — According to sources, local wife Melissa Cross is waiting patiently for her husband, Jason, to turn off the reading light on his nightstand and plunge the bedroom into a quiet darkness before she finally unloads her deepest thoughts and feelings.
"I hold everything in all day," she said, explaining why she couldn't have possibly said anything earlier. "I wait until the absolute last moment before sleep, once all the lights are out before I start sharing my thoughts and feelings. It's the only way I can make sure he's paying attention."
"Women share their thoughts only when their husband is at their most vulnerable: when he's trying to sleep," explained Dr. Thurston Morley, an experienced marriage counselor. "Like a nocturnal predator hunting its sleeping prey, she strikes, asking him why he never buys her flowers anymore or if he would ever get remarried if she died."
Over the years, Cross' husband has developed an awareness of his wife's habit. But instead of confronting her about it he just leaves the lights on a little longer each night in hopes she will drift to sleep and forget to say anything. But it never works.
At publishing time, Cross had turned off the light on his nightstand, only for his wife to suddenly blurt: "Would you still think I was attractive if I wasn't attractive?"
