MEMPHIS, TN — Local teenager Kayleigh Taylor has begun to wonder when her parents will finally grow out of the awkward stage they're in.
Taylor has spent years now cringing as her parents do bizarre things like make conversation in grocery stores and wear out-of-fashion clothing from six months ago.
"I really hope this phase passes soon," said Taylor, watching her parents invite friends over for dinner instead of texting them. "It's painful to see them be so awkward socially, like how they talk to people out loud. And they seem, like, comfortable in their own skin, and unironically positive about things. I'm praying this passes quickly."
Despite Taylor attempting to guide her parents through this season of gawkiness, they have continued to adopt strange hobbies and express themselves in ungainly ways. "Mom planted this whole herb garden the other day, and my dad is all into smoking meat. It's, ugh, so weird," said Taylor. "And at dinner, they will ask everyone how their day was and then talk about their feelings. It's just really uncomfortable watching them flounder like this."
At publishing time, Taylor had shaken her head in resignation after her parents had made small talk with a hostess instead of silently staring at their phones.
