KOHGILUYEH — A thankful F-15 weapons systems officer reportedly asked his rescuers if he could go back to the crash site to get his AirPods real quick.

After the fighter was shot down over southwestern Iran on Friday, a race to find the second of the downed airmen ensued between U.S. military forces and Iran. The WSO was located on Sunday morning by the United States and successfully evacuated to a nearby military base, but not before the pilot asked his rescuers if he could return to the rescue site to grab his earbuds.

"Oh, dang!" the airman reportedly told his rescuers. "I know I left them back there. Is there any way we can run back and grab those? They're second generation, and I love them so much. I got them for Christmas a few years ago, and I know it's dumb, but I'm just sort of lost without those. Can we swing back around and grab them?"

The airman's rescuers reportedly thought about it for a minute but informed him it would probably not be possible due to the possibility of immediate death.

"We'd love to, you know," an anonymous U.S. Special Forces officer told the press. "But things are still a little hot in the area, and I think we should probably just hang tight at the base here. Maybe Uncle Sam can buy you a new set."

At publishing time, the rescued airman had also asked if they could go back and grab the water bottle that he left behind at the crash site, as it had his favorite stickers on it, and he really didn't want to have to replace it.
