U.S. — With artificial intelligence continually opening up new horizons for technological discovery and automation in every facet of human life, researchers were shocked by a new study that found 85% of A.I. servers were being used by men generating images of themselves as Roman soldiers.
The study, which was conducted by a specialized think tank affiliated with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, had expected to learn more about the usage of A.I. and what could be prognosticated about its future applications but yielded the surprising results that an overwhelming majority of its use has been to depict male users as centurions.
"It's actually used for very little else," said Professor Clayton Rookstool, who led the study. "We were anticipating a broad range of applications for the growing technological capabilities — medicine, engineering, data analysis — but no… just millions and millions of guys asking A.I. to generate images of them as Roman soldiers. Honestly, we had higher hopes, but this shouldn't shock anyone."
The research team was particularly intrigued by the "create an image of me as a Roman soldier" request stretching across virtually all demographics. "It's a near-universal desire," Rookstoll continued. "Men from all ethnicities, every socioeconomic background, and representing a wide range of professions all want to see themselves as Roman centurions. Either that, or they use A.I. to write Star Wars fan fiction."
At publishing time, researchers had also expressed interest in digging deeper into the third most common use of A.I., which was people asking who would win a fight between Batman and Aragorn.
Trump is cleaning house, and with Kash Patel as the presumptive head of the FBI, that department is no exception.
