INDIANAPOLIS, IN — In an overt and disgusting display of white privilege, a black WNBA player was ejected from a game for merely shooting her opponent Sophie Cunningham with a shoulder-mounted rocket launcher.
With six minutes remaining in the third quarter, Chicago Sky forward Dijonia Carrington emerged from the team bench brandishing a rocket launcher. As play resumed, Carrington fired a rocket directly into Cunningham's chest, causing play to stop as debris showered fellow players. That is when, according to onlookers, things turned ugly.
"They threw out the black player. They literally said she is not allowed on the court with everyone else, just because she shot a white player with a rocket launcher," said local fan Melanie Brooks. "Everyone knows that if the girl who took a rocket to the chest hadn't been white, we wouldn't be having this conversation right now. You could not have a more clear picture of white privilege."
Coaches across the WNBA condemned the decision by the refs to eject Carrington, stating there was clearly no malicious intent. "Rocket launchers are just a part of the game. Dijonai clearly did not mean to hurt anyone," said Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White. "We're going to miss having Sophie on our team, but I am absolutely appalled by the refs' obviously racist decision. It has no place in our league."
At publishing time, WNBA players had agreed to all take a knee alongside a rocket launcher in solidarity with Carrington.
