BURBANK, CA — In a move seen as controversial by some and hailed as another step forward for diversity by others, Star Wars introduced a new non-binary Ewok whose preferred pronouns are "Yub/Nub."

The new character, Windy Warrick, joined the cast of the polarizing show Star Wars: The Acolyte and made history as the franchise's first non-binary native of the forest moon of Endor. Producers expressed excitement about the opportunity to tell the character's story of struggling for inclusion.

"It's a truly groundbreaking character," said showrunner Leslye Headland. "Windy is the ancient ancestor of beloved Return of the Jedi hero Wicket Warrick who identified as non-binary and chose to be referred to by the pronouns ‘Yub/Nub.' We look forward to spending entire episodes exploring Windy's sexuality and gender identity, which is what every fan really wants in a Star Wars show."

To ensure the character was represented as authentically as possible, Lucasfilm held a global casting call for a non-binary little person actor. "Representation is always the priority," Headland explained. "The fact that the actor we chose to play our non-binary Ewok is gender-fluid only enhanced the performance. If you thought Ewoks were popular before, just wait until you see Windy Warrick!"

Behind-the-scenes reports indicated Windy will prove to be more powerful than any other Star Wars character to date and will single-handedly defeat the series' antagonists and save the galaxy from falling under oppressive Sith rule.

At publishing time, Lucasfilm was already in pre-production on a Windy Warrick spinoff show.
