HOLLYWOOD, CA — Director Curry Barker has a surprise hit on his hands with his indie horror movie Obsession, which has especially connected with Gen Z audiences. Barker said he got the idea for his frightening movie from a real-life source. "I once met a woman!" Barker exclaimed.
Barker went on to further describe the scary encounter. "She said one thing, but I think she often meant another," Barker said. "And she had emotions — but not like a normal amount. A lot of emotions. It was horrific, and I didn't know what to do."
Barker had initially repressed the experience, but when sitting down to pen a horror script, his memory of the chilling encounter resurfaced. "I was trying to come up with something that would be a really scary thing," Barker explained. "And then I remembered the woman. And I was thinking what if a man had to deal with a woman... like a lot. I was almost too scared to write it."
With Obsession such a huge hit, a sequel seems likely, but Barker said he was not sure where to go from there. "I don't know how you raise the stakes from a woman," Barker said. "Two women? Doesn't seem plausible." Barker then seemed to be struck with some inspiration. "What if a guy had a daughter? Oh man, that's horrifying."
At publishing time, Barker was reportedly trying to muster up the courage to conduct some research for the sequel by speaking to another woman.
