U.S. — In a heartfelt showing of remembrance for the renowned director of This Is Spinal Tap, the nation's worship leaders collectively announced plans to honor Rob Reiner by turning their guitars up to 11.
After news of Reiner's death broke late Sunday night, church worship pastors started a viral groundswell to simultaneously pay tribute to the filmmaker and live out their longtime dreams of finally being able to turn their guitars up louder at church.
"Our senior pastor usually doesn't let us crank it up to 11, but we hope he'll make an exception in this case," said worship leader Ben Clinton. "It was awful to hear about what happened to Rob Reiner. As a way of paying our respects, all of us across the country have agreed to join together in turning our guitar amps up to 11. Most worship leaders dream of turning their amps up to 10. That's supposed to be the top. But ours go to 11. That's one more than 10."
Other worship leaders echoed the same sentiments. "How much more could we do to remember him?" asked Josiah Smith. "And the answer is none. None much more. Rob Reiner directed so many classic films. A Few Good Men. Stand By Me. The Princess Bride. And This Is Spinal Tap. What better way to honor his contributions to art and pop culture than to make our worship sets as loud as possible?"
At publishing time, Baptist churches across the country had reportedly taken preemptive steps to prevent their worship leaders from playing too loudly by modifying the amps to only go up to 9.
