LOS ANGELES, CA — While waiting in line at the Department Of Motor Vehicles, local man Roger Stephens had the chance to experience trainee Sarah Taylor's very first day on the job, watch her advance in years, and celebrate her retirement.
After arriving at eight in the morning to begin waiting in line, Stephens had the opportunity to see Taylor process her very first driver's license renewal, learn the ropes of the job, get promoted, take maternity leave (twice), and ultimately retire to spend more time with her grandkids.
"It was beautiful to watch," said Stephens, now himself a grandfather four times over. "I kind of wish I'd been able to leave here to meet my own grandchildren, but seeing the arc of Sarah's life while I waited in line was pretty neat. Oh, hey! I think my number is coming up soon."
At publishing time, Stephens had in fact been called up, only to be informed that all of his identification had expired during his decades waiting in line.
