U.S. — Fans of the hit faith-based series The Chosen were left reeling this week after showrunners were accused of "blatantly jumping the shark" by planning to kill off the show's main character in one episode, only to bring Him back to life in the very next one.
Fans and critics alike feared the best days of The Chosen may be behind it, with the writers clearly struggling for direction as to what to do with the central character.
"Talk about pulling a major stunt with the writing," sighed longtime viewer Brad Hensley. "It's like they've completely run out of ideas. They're apparently spending the entire season building up to the big finale, where the main character is publicly executed. Then — on the very next episode — He's back! It's like it never happened! Come on, guys. Where do they get this stuff?"
Viewers reportedly felt a sense of emotional whiplash, preparing to process the main character's death before learning that He would be back walking around again so quickly. "He's just supposed to be back? Just like that?" said local woman Denise Rawls. "It's sad to say, but that's a little far-fetched. He literally just died, and now He's strolling right back into the scene, chowing down on fish. Buying into this ending sure requires a lot of faith from the audience."
At publishing time, a later episode was rumored to show the main character ascending out of sight, with promises that He would come back yet again.
