MENLO PARK, CA - Facebook introduced its wide range of reaction buttons last year, and the popular social media network is expanding the tool with a new emoji which will allow users to call out content they see as blatantly heretical within their timeline.
According to a press release by the company, while users still have at their disposal all the previous reactions - "Like," "Love," "Haha," "Wow," "Sad," and "Angry" - they'll now be able to react to any Facebook post with a "Heresy!" button, complete with aghast emoji man wearing a 16th-century-style scholar's cap.
"We recently noticed a large uptick in comments containing just the word 'heresy!' so it really made sense to offer a reaction button expressing the sentiment," Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg told news outlets. "The 'Angry' button has been a popular option for calling out heretics, but we felt that it didn't really convey the appropriate level of righteous indignation."
The option is being rolled out in phases, with all Facebook users expected to see it integrated into their browsing experience "by this time next week."
According to Zuckerberg, if the new option proves as useful as he thinks it will, other options like "You're Definitely Going To Hell" and "You're A Lewd Fellow Of The Baser Sort" will begin internal beta testing soon.
