SPACE — The crew of the USS Enterprise made a surprising discovery after landing on yet another planet that looked shockingly like the landscape of Southern California.
A scout team made up of Lieutenant-Commander Dr. Leonard McCoy and Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu was beamed down to the surface of an as-of-yet unexplored planet, finding its climate and topography to be — just as with many of the new worlds the crew had discovered — exactly like that of Los Angeles County.
"I urge caution as we disembark," Dr. McCoy urged his colleague. "We have no idea what this civilization might be like. We've never seen a land as strange as this."
Initial surveys revealed the planet's inhabitants spoke fluent English, dressed exclusively in athleisure, and insisted they were "totally not like the other planets nearby." Lieutenant Sulu confirmed that scans of the area revealed the climate was temperate, with a brief rainy season during the winter months and warm, sunny summers.
"We're a simple, peaceful people," declared one resident of the mild, California-like planet. "We have artsy ways that may prove interesting to this group of visitors from the sky. We invite you, strange outlanders, to join us in a meal of fish tacos."
McCoy and Sulu then made a hasty retreat while laying down heavy phaser fire before evacuating back to the ship, where the crew set course to explore the next unknown planet that looked exactly like Southern California.
At publishing time, the Enterprise had sent Commander Spock and Ensign Chekov to investigate yet another world that bore an uncanny resemblance to the San Fernando Valley.
