LOS ANGELES, CA — Popular house-purchasing platform Zillow added a new feature this week that helpfully informs users of which houses in Southern California are currently on fire.
Zillow unveiled the new feature in what they said was an effort to provide potential home buyers with full transparency when looking at listings online. Prospective buyers will now have up-to-the-minute information about which homes are engulfed in flames.
"Knowing if a home is currently on fire will help those in the market make informed decisions," Zillow spokesman Timothy Baker said. "We believe everyone in looking at houses in California needs to know what the state of that house is and whether or not it's been leveled by a wildfire or is currently a raging, uncontrollable inferno."
The state of California is no stranger to wildfires, and experts have argued that the issues residents face could be mitigated by better governance. Others, however, believe there are really no viable options when it comes to controlling the fires, and allowing them to destroy hundreds of homes is just a natural part of life in the Golden State.
"We feel this helpful information to have," Baker said. "Surprisingly, some people are actually OK with buying a house that's currently on fire. This feature will help them find the properties they're looking for."
At publishing time, Zillow also added a feature that lets users see which houses in California were currently occupied by homeless squatters.
