NORFOLK, VA — A member of Generation Z reportedly starved to death while waiting for a DoorDash delivery that would never come, authorities confirmed Wednesday.
Local 22-year-old Tyler Baker was found dead in his parent's basement after his DoorDash driver suffered a flat tire and couldn't get him his 20-piece chicken nuggets order in time. According to DoorDash, the driver was delayed 90-minutes, which turned out to be 90-minutes too long for Tyler Baker.
Friends and family gathered at the Baker residence to share memories and disbelief that Tyler wasn't willing to get himself some food.
"He didn't have to die," his father said. "I mean really, he didn't. There's an entire pantry and refrigerator full of food mere feet away. There's even a McDonald's two blocks away. I don't get it."
His closest friends, who are also members of Generation Z, however, seemed to understand the danger that befell Tyler only too well. "Sometimes when I order Chipotle I wonder if this could be the day I die," said Zoe Benedict, 21. "What if the burrito never comes? Life is so fragile, you know?"
At publishing time, dozens more had died after the DoorDash driver was delayed in delivering food to Baker's funeral.
