POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A local woman reportedly dedicated herself to praying day and night that the Lord's will be done for her, but only so long as it is the same as her will.
Britney Peters, 26, began basing her prayers on the Lord's Prayer as recorded in the gospel accounts where Jesus taught his disciples to pray, "Thy will be done." But finding this prayer a tad stifling and limiting, she asked the Lord in prayer if it would be okay if she prayed for His will to be done, as long as it is the same as what she really wants. Miraculously, she instantly felt the peace that she was looking for, like the Lord was telling her that her will was His will too.
"Lord, I pray for Your will to be done," called out Peters from her prayer closet. "But just remember our deal that Your will doesn't make me uncomfortable in any way, that I get that new Gucci handbag, and that I get that new BMW X7 to replace the one I rolled over last Saturday."
"Lord, Thy will be done, but only after You have factored into Your will all the ease and comfort that I desire. Oh, and if You could send me a 6-foot tall boyfriend with a six-figure income, that would be great. Please hear my prayer, according to Your will, and mine."
At publishing time, Peters was busy looking for more Scriptures she could either ignore or twist out of context to make her religion more comfortable for herself.
