CASTRO MARIM, PORTUGAL — According to sources, American tourist Debrah Thompson's mood soured Monday after seeing her husband gaze in wonderment at the Guadiana International Bridge, knowing in her heart that he would never look at her like she was a cool suspension bridge.
As the vacationing couple stopped briefly at a viewpoint to take in the engineering majesty of one of the longest suspension bridges in Europe, Thompson gradually was deeply saddened to see her husband's expression of intense longing directed at a suspension bridge.
"Look at those cables," her husband allegedly said. "Just breathtaking."
Thompson later called a friend in America, where she claimed she felt unappreciated. "He used to look at me like a suspension bridge when we were dating, but I guess that fire is gone," Thompson reflected sadly. "Why can't he look at me like that again?"
But Thompson doesn't regret her marriage. "I may not have the brilliant load-bearing engineering to compete with these bridges, but I know he loves me," she said. "I guess this just happens in marriage. You become too familiar with each other, and the excitement just fades away."
At publishing time, Debrah's husband found himself feeling sad after noticing his wife never looked at him the way she looked at the Dollar Spot items at Target.
