WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tensions between the United States and Iran continued to reach new levels, as President Donald Trump told the Ayatollah's regime that if they didn't stop slaughtering tens of thousands of protesters, he would start counting to five.
With reports surfacing that the Iranian government had engaged in widespread executions of its citizens amid large-scale marches against the regime, Trump made it clear that if the killings didn't stop, he would start counting, with the implication that Iran didn't want to find out what would happen once he got to five.
"Don't make me count to five," Trump said to reporters in the Oval Office. "Believe me, you do not want me to start counting. That would be a very bad decision on Iran's part. They have been warned. If I start counting, and I get to five, there will be very serious consequences. Consequences they do not want to know about. But they will, if they don't stop."
The United States has made multiple allusions to taking military action against Iran in recent weeks, but the Trump administration stressed that the regime should stop immediately to avoid having Trump start counting to five. "They will leave the president no choice," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said. "We've tried time-outs, we have them stand in the corner, and we've even taken away their screen time. If the president counts to five, and they don't stop, there will be a big problem."
At publishing time, Trump had announced that he had reached five, and if Iran didn't stop killing protesters, they wouldn't want to find out what happens when he gets to 10.
