LOWELL, MA — History was made by a local athlete this week as a trans basketball player achieved a rare triple-double with 36 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 concussions while showing total dominance over a team of young women.

The player, Steve Dawson, joined the Green Ridge High School girls' basketball team this year and has racked up an impressive season, leading the Lady Wildcats to 20 straight victories, 17 of them coming by way of knockout.

"Steve has been a killer addition to our team," said Green Ridge girls' basketball coach Bill Sparks. "We've struggled to put consistently dominant teams on the court while I've been here, but once Steve joined the team, it was a night and day difference. Our team has transitioned into a real powerhouse in the division."

"We're not sure whether it's her beefy arms or the fact that she's two feet taller than everyone on the court."

The Lady Wildcats' most recent game against the Plainview Academy was called late in the third quarter after Dawson successfully knocked all of Plainview's players out with injuries. "We just couldn't withstand the onslaught," said Plainview point guard Erica Anderson, who suffered three broken ribs while trying to take a charge from Dawson. "At a certain point, after you see all of your teammates being carted off the court, you just have to think of preserving life."

At publishing time, it had already been announced that Dawson would be this year's recipient of the school district's prestigious Lia Thomas Competitive Courage Award to recognize Steve's outstanding achievements in bravery and sportsmanship while crushing and demoralizing every opponent throughout the season.
