NEW YORK, NY — In a move experts now hail as one of the more shrewd decisions made in the professional sports world in the last several years, star baseball player Juan Soto revealed that he joined the Mets so he could get the entire month of October off every year.

Soto, who signed a 15-year, $756 million contract with the Mets before the 2025 season, narrowly avoided having to spend the month of October working, but managed to help his team complete a shocking late-season collapse that kept the club out of the playoffs and gave them the next month off.

"This is what I had in mind all along," Soto said after the Mets were officially eliminated from postseason play. "It was pretty touch-and-go there for a while. It looked like we might end up having to keep playing past the end of the regular season. Thankfully, the plan I had when I signed to play here came to fruition, and we just barely squeaked into having October off. Can't wait to get home."

The Mets organization praised Soto for his foresight. "He had a vision for what he expected when he signed with our club," said Mets President of Baseball Operations David Stearns. "We weren't the only team that wanted Juan, but he felt he had the best chance of sitting at home every October if he joined our team. We're happy to have him here. Through September of every season, at least."

At publishing time, Soto said he hoped that the Mets would spend the offseason looking to make key acquisitions that could help the team almost, but not quite, contend for the postseason in 2026.
