SAN DIEGO, CA — What had started out as a perfectly enjoyable outing with friends turned sour today, as a local man's nice day outdoors drinking with the boys kept getting interrupted by having to hit a little white ball.
Kevin Mansfield was invited to hang out with a group of buddies and was initially having a good time standing around on a beautiful day, enjoying a few beers and cigars, but became frustrated by periodically having to stop what he was doing and smack a tiny ball with a long, metal stick.
"Other than the stuff with the little white ball, this was really cool," Mansfield said. "It's always nice to get outside and enjoy the sunshine, and it's even better when you can hang out with the guys and throw back a few. But like every few minutes, somebody would interrupt the good time to remind me that it was my turn to hit the little white ball with a stick. Great day, otherwise."
Though he did admit to seeing other groups of guys doing the same thing elsewhere on the large grounds of what seemed to be a well-manicured grassy landscape, Mansfield said that the periodic interruptions were a nuisance. "Not sure what it was all about," he continued. "I kept hearing people randomly shout ‘GET IN THE HOLE' and stuff like that, but whatever. At least I've got a bear and a stogie. Beautiful day. But hitting that tiny ball into the cup way, way far away? I don't get that."
At publishing time, Mansfield was surprised to learn that the other guys had been keeping some type of score for the activity.
