NEW YORK, NY — New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was reportedly seen standing in front of his bathroom mirror practicing his "sad face" in preparation for his upcoming appearance at the 9/11 memorial.
The young mayor was seen smiling somberly, frowning, nodding, and furrowing his brows through the window of his New York City residence. The source who witnessed the scene believed Mamdani was practicing his facial expressions so he could more effectively pretend to be sad when remembering the deaths of thousands of Americans at the hands of Islamic terrorists.
"It was weird," bystander Nate Signal said. "I was walking my dog and just happened to glance in his window, and I could see him shaking his head and dabbing at his eyes. But the weird thing was, there were no tears. It really seemed like he was trying to rehearse something."
Controversy surrounding Mamdani's appearance at the event has mounted in recent days, as many said his past statements and present views on radical Islam taint the memory of the fallen.
"I have to make it look just right," Mamdani reportedly commented to his friends. "They need to see that I'm sad, but also that I'm reflecting on what has been. And also that I'm just one of the guys. And also that I hate radicals of all kinds. Especially Israeli radicals."
At publishing time, Mamdani had told his staff that he figured out how to make his face look sad by remembering how he felt when he heard that Osama bin Laden had been killed.
