KANSAS CITY, MO — Staff and onlookers broke out into rapturous applause after local hero Tom Kelson survived watching his wife undergo a C-section.

The harrowing ordeal began when medical staff instructed Kelson to wear a disposable paper gown and hairnet. Despite the immense psychological toll of wearing dorky safety attire, Kelson pressed onward, bravely taking a seat near his wife's head behind a blue sterile sheet.

"They turned on all the lights in the operating room, and frankly, it was a bit warm," said Kelson to adoring fans. "But I refused to let that break me. I stayed right there on my stool, lightly sweating. My wife kept complaining that she wasn't sure the spinal block had really numbed everything, and just her talking like that made me queasy. But I hung on. I just kept saying, 'You can do this, Tom.'"

According to eyewitnesses, Tom swayed a bit on his stool when he caught an accidental glimpse of the doctor's surgical tray. "My wife was lucky. She never had to see the instruments they were using on her," said Kelson. "It was touch and go there for a moment, I'm not going to lie. I had to dig deep, but after the nurse handed me a ginger ale, I fought through it."

After the successful delivery, the medical staff took off their gloves and began to slow clap for Kelson's incredible achievement. "We use the word 'hero' too lightly, but there is no other word for what we just witnessed," said the obstetrician, Dr. Lisa Marks. "You reach these moments when you think you've come to the end of yourself, and that's where you discover what's really inside. Today, sitting behind that blue curtain while we operated on his wife, we found out what's inside Tom: an absolute legend."

At publishing time, medical staff had announced that Kelson was expected to make a full recovery following a four-hour nap.
