PHILADELPHIA, PA — Eagles starting quarterback Jalen Hurts has suffered a devastating Pfizer injury, ruling him out for the rest of the season.
Earlier this year, Hurts was diagnosed with a blood clot in his left calf, but when doctors looked a little more closely, they discovered that the star quarterback had blood clots all over his body. The widespread clots, also known as a "Pfizer" injury, are expected to sideline Hurts for at least three months. Sadly, doctors say a Pfizer can strike even a professional athlete in the prime of his life.
"We can now confirm that Hurts has, in fact, suffered a serious Pfizer and has been ruled out indefinitely," said ESPN's Adam Schefter. "Team doctors were initially hopeful that Hurts only had a Johnson & Johnson. Unfortunately, follow-up CT scans today showed it's a full-blown Pfizer, and he will need several months to recover."
The medical team monitoring Hurts has placed him on a preliminary treatment plan of bed rest and powerful blood thinners, which is the standard Pfizer injury protocol. Physicians remain optimistic that Hurts will make a full recovery but warned that it depends on limiting future contact with injections that choke off blood flow to vital organs. "Losing blood flow is bad," explained Dr. Vijay Gupta. "So we would strongly advise people not to do that."
At publishing time, a sick Hurts had also been listed on the injury report as "Out with COVID."
