OPHRAH — Before going into battle, Gideon, the son of Joash the Abiezrite, reportedly asked for a third sign to prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that the Lord was with him: for a wet fleece to be turned into a tank.
Gideon first asked for a fleece of wool on the threshing floor to have dew on it when the ground around it is dry, then he asked for it to be dry only on the fleece and there be dew all over the ground. Then, he asked for an M1 Abrams tank.
"Be not angry with me, Lord. If now I have found favor in Your sight, then perform for me another sign with the fleece: turn it into a tank," Gideon pleaded. "For I know that only you can turn wool into something that does not yet exist. Then, Lord, I will know that you are truly with me."
And behold, the next morning, the fleece had become a tank. Gideon knew then that the Lord would be with him in battle and would soon deliver Israel from the hand of Midian.
Then, Gideon built an altar there and named it "Tanks Are Cool." It is there to this day.
At publishing time, Gideon could not figure out how to operate the tank and had to do battle with Midian through conventional means.
