CAPE CANAVERAL, FL — NASA issued a statement on Thursday confirming that Elon Musk had launched an emergency rescue plumber into space late Wednesday night to repair the broken toilet on the Artemis II spacecraft.
Following news that the crew of the Artemis had faced major toilet issues in space, Musk told reporters that SpaceX had the capability to send up a special rescue plumber to help solve such problems.
"We're prepared for every contingency," Musk said. "We've always got a guy ready to go, he's got his little tool bag and jumpsuit on and ready."
Musk said SpaceX had been working on the emergency plumber program for years in tandem with the NASA launch on the chance that just such a problem might occur. The billionaire said other specialists remained ready to go in case there are any other issues that arise.
"We launched Jimmy up into space on his own rocket, and he rendezvoused with the crew of the Artemis and got their toilet up and working in no time," SpaceX engineer Rocky Mendez told the press. "We've also got an emergency electrician, an emergency mechanic, an emergency carpenter, a whole slate of emergency workers ready to go. We can even deliver sandwiches."
At publishing time, Musk had announced that he was thinking of sending himself up to the Artemis to see if the crew would like to hang out and play a round of Diablo IV with him.
