WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a night where lawmakers raised eyebrows by remaining glued to their seats throughout the president's State of the Union address, analysts later said the most shocking incident of the night was when Democrats refused to stand as Trump introduced Jesus.
President Trump took a moment during his speech to introduce the literal Son of God sitting in the gallery and recognize Him for being the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, but Democrats sat stubbornly in their chairs and would not offer applause.
"The Son of God is here, folks, let's hear it for Him," Trump said as he addressed the crowd. "He came a long way to be here. He is omnipresent, but we'll give Him credit for it anyway, won't we? There's Jesus. Let's hear it for Jesus. We love Him, don't we, folks?"
The Republicans in the audience and other spectators quickly jumped to their feet and offered an uproarious ovation for Christ, while Democrats sat silent. The president responded with disappointment at the display of disrespect. "Look at the Democrats," he continued. "Do you believe this? They won't stand for Jesus. He's probably too pro-life for them. It's sad. They would probably stand for Muhammad. But he's dead. He didn't come back to life. Only Jesus did that. He's one of a kind, that guy."
At publishing time, Democrats had publicly bashed Trump for violating the separation of church and state by inviting a deity to the U.S. Capitol.
