HOLLYWOOD, CA — Following his portrayal as Steve in the Minecraft movie, Jack Black has announced that he has just accepted an invitation to play Lara Croft in an upcoming Tomb Raider movie.
While Steph Wahlberg, casting director of the upcoming movie, was initially "a little hesitant" about putting Black in the role of one of the best-known female video game characters of all time, he was ultimately won over by Black's enormous breadth as an actor.
"I mean, you look at his performance as Bowser, you look at Steve, who else is going to be able to play Lara Croft?" Wahlberg asked. "He's got the perfect voice for the type — have you heard his British accent? — and with the ability to get into the headspace of video game characters that he's demonstrated throughout his career? It's absolutely incredible. He's so good. We just had to have him."
The announcement has drawn moderately nonplussed reactions from fans, most of whom have asked "if Angelina Jolie could do it again instead."
Black has announced his intent to start motorcycle stunt training and wearing a crop top in order to really get into character.
At publishing time, the film industry had been further rocked by the announcement that Black would also be playing Fox in the Starfox movie.
