SALT LAKE CITY, UT — Local woman Rachel Gentry told her husband she'd compromise on her proposal to get a coop full of chickens by letting him do all the work if he let her get the backyard poultry.
"Tell you what," Rachel told her husband, Greg. "If you let me get that chicken coop I've been wanting, I'll let you help out with the cleaning, the feeding, the rodent abatement. It's a great deal for you!"
Greg spent the better part of Wednesday afternoon trying to figure out if she was kidding or serious before giving her an answer. "The last time she proposed something like this, I thought she was just joking," he said. "I ended up getting roped into walking the dog pretty much every day. Not this time!"
Rachel launched her campaign for backyard chickens a few weeks ago and had been working out all the angles, including promising that she'd make something tasty out of all the fresh eggs and swearing that the kids would pitch in and help with the workload.
"Then I realized I could just tell him I'd let him do all the work if he let me get the chickens," she explained. "I said it so fast that he didn't realize what was going on. Win!"
At publishing time, Greg Gentry said he remembered no such agreement.
