On a lovely jaunt to the playground this morning, I encountered a most breathtaking and addictive creation known simply as a "slide".
The monosyllabic word "slide" cannot begin to do justice to the heart-stopping thrill ride this invention offers. One begins by ascending a set of stairs to reach the slide's summit. With every step higher, I could feel my heart racing, the adrenalin building. The height becomes dizzying at the pinnacle, from which the entire playground can be surveyed with ease. A sense of danger gripped me, but the choice remained. Dare I descend?
Next, one sits down at the slide's apex, straddling the metaphorical line between adventure and safety. With a deep breath, I gave myself the slightest push - oh ho, the rush of exhilaration! I flew like the eagles, careening down the slick slope at speeds heretofore unknown. I launched off the slide's edge into thin air, luckily keeping my wits enough to tuck and roll to safety. The whole experience was nothing short of a stunning delight.
Yet, even at the moment of recovery, one instantly feels a yearning to recapture that same moment of bliss. The stairs again beckon. I question, however - could a second ride possibly recreate the unmitigated pleasure of the first?
Fortunately, the depths of joy found in a slide are such that they can never be fully plumbed. Each ride down is a universe of joy unto itself. The mysteries of the slide are indeed infinite. Did you know you can also climb up the slide?
I cannot recommend highly enough this angled artifice of euphoria, and dearly look forward to our next meeting.
