THE BRONX, NY - Star Democratic socialist candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took the stage at her election night rally Tuesday evening to give a somber concession speech after learning she only received 78% of the vote in her district.
An intern approached Ocasio-Cortez shortly after the polls closed and told her she was projected to win almost 4/5 of the vote, causing the candidate to burst into tears. The intern tried to interject, but Ocasio-Cortez interrupted: "No, I have to let them know. They deserve that much."
She jumped up on stage and congratulated her opponent while thanking her supporters for trying. "Well, mis amigos, it's all over. We fought hard, we tried hard. But in the end we could only get about 80% of the vote," she said, fighting back tears. "All the polls going into this said we were gonna win. I can't believe it's over. But don't let the fight end here. Next time we'll fight harder and get at least 10% of the vote."
"We will overcome!" she concluded before heading offstage to mourn her loss alone as the crowd wept bitterly.
